This is Matakana Island; an island nestled in the Tauranga Harbour, the Bay of Plenty, the North Island of Aotearoa New Zealand. The island has two distinct parts: some 5000 acres of farm and orchard land on the inner harbour; and around 10,000 acres of forest covered coastal land facing the Pacific Ocean. It is home to five hapu (sub-tribes) of Ngai te Rangi iwi (tribe) with a history that spans many years that has been embedded in the landscape.
